Turku Finland, 1967. The legendary Finnish businessman WilhelmWahlforss, who revived the fortunes of Wärtsilä, turns 75. To celebratethe anniversary, the global shipbuilding giant builds this SAR vessel,baptising her in his honour and donating her to the Finnish NavySalvation Company.After 40 years of honourable career in the Baltic Sea, the boat isdecommissioned and sold to an Italian shipping company which transfersher to Italy and carries out a first restoration, bringing her back tofull efficiency.June 2008. Due to contract's constraints the name of the vessel must be changed.The boat will then be called Asso, in honour of the memorable IsottaFraschini engine family and she will sail across Baltic, Englandchannel, Biscay Gulf, Gibraltar, Mediterranean, toward to Italy. The4700 nautical miles transfer is performed without a single failure.Although Asso has been constantly updated in terms of equipment andelectronics by the Finnish Navy, the new owners decide to make changesand improvements to the boat, to make her more suitable for use in seasat lower latitudes, higher temperatures and less demanding uses.Among the main improvements made in 2009 we find:- Electro-hydraulic bow thruster.- High lift stern platform.- Side-mounted wet exhaust system for main and auxiliary engines.- High lift stern platform.- Side-mounted wet exhaust system for main and auxiliary engines.- High efficiency 4-blade propulsion propellers. In 2014 Asso changes Owner again and finally becomes part of the current owner's fleet. The new owner immediately identifies the improvements it wants to make to Asso, to meet the new working needs and address the use of the boat towards underwater Survey and Research, Inspections and Measurements, support for Maritime Works. The most important changes are the replacement of the propulsion engines and the classification of the vessel. Asso will be equipped with a pair of MAN D2866 in a work configuration and a power setting of 370CV.At the same time she will be classified as a merchant vessel. To achieve this, the owner will have to review and renew all on-board systems, provide ex-ante projects and equip her with a CO2 fire-fighting system. Over ? 100,000 will be invested for the execution of all these works.
