Il termine „open bow“ è da intendersi come sinonimo di bowrider.
HardtopUna barca hard top è dotata di un tetto fisso sopra il pozzo che protegge in maniera ottimale da condizioni meteorologiche estreme. Al contrario di barche con un telo di copertura ripiegabile, il hard top ha il vantaggio di garantire un buon clima sulla barca in qualsiasi condizione di tempo meteorologico, permettendo così di sfruttare la stagione il più lungo possibile. Una barca hard top può essere dotata anche di un tettuccio scorrevole che si lascia aprire ad es. premendo semplicemente un pulsante.
Cabin cruiserUn cabin cruiser è una barca piuttosto grande dotata di una cabina chiusa. Al contrario del daycruiser è concepito anche per gite con pernottamenti. Spesso i termini cruiser e cabin cruiser vengono usati come sinonimi.

Dato che le barche a motore con una lunghezza di minimo dieci metri sono già definiti yacht a motore, ove siano dotate di una possibilità posti letto e di un angolo bagno, il termine di cabinato a motore con cabina si usa soprattutto per le barche con una lunghezza da sette a dodici metri ca.
Sport cruiserUn cruiser è una barca cabinata che si presta bene per percorsi più lunghi con pernottamenti. Lo sport cruiser dà inoltre importanza alla rapidità ed è quindi costruito come planante o semiplanante. Uno dei produttori conosciuti di sport cruiser è ad esempio il cantiere Bavaria.
TrawlerUn trawler è una barca per la pesca d’alto mare praticata tramite rete a strascico. Nei side trawler, la coperta di prua è posizionata nella parte centrale della barca; nel trawler a traino poppiero è situata nella poppa della barca.
