• The ship has been ashore every winter. Before a new layer of antifouling was applied in the spring, the old layer was well sanded, so that the underwater hull remained smooth. In the spring of 2019 a new layer of antifouling (International Micron) was applied to the underwater hull for the last time.
• The Standfast 40 is the most successful sailing yacht by designer Frans Maas. This competition yacht, which is more than 12 metres long and four metres wide. The first design dates from 1971 and in the period up to 1984 116 Standfast 40's were built in different versions. Larger and smaller Standfasts have also been built, such as the Standfast 27, the Standfast 30 and the Standfast 33, but less of them have been built on the slope than the Standfast 40.
• In 1975 THIS STANDFAST 40 (then still Goodwin and owned by Jan van Drongelen) won the famous Fastnetrace. The Standfast 2 of Piet Vroon and Charlie Gordon, with Frans Maas as crew member on board, became third. The Standfast 2 even finished third, but by a slightly worse measurement she became second and Goodwin first. Shortly afterwards the current (2nd) owner bought the ship in 1975. The owner mainly sailed the ship with his family and only sailed a few club regattas. The ship has been ashore every winter since then.
• The Standfast 40, designed in the 1970s to meet the requirements of the IOR, is still a fast ship, but of course no longer suitable for the international competition field. The ship, which was built by Frans Maas Jachtbouw in Breskens, is still popular in the southern Netherlands and Belgium. Because of its depth (2.05 to 2.30 metres), one sees the Standfast 40 less on the shallow IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea. On many ships the boom has been lengthened in order to be able to sail a larger mainsail. The small narrow mainsail of the original design was only intended to obtain the most favourable IOR measurement possible.
• Because of its sturdy design and good ballast ratio, the Standfast was and is often used for long journeys.
• The Dutchman Cees de Reus (1940) sailed around the world with his wife Karola, in seven years with his Standfast 40. He wrote the book Rond de wereld met een glimlach [Around the world with a smile] (Hilversum 2008 and Amsterdam 2009).
