This 52 open is one of the most sought versions with the tender garage, twin double staterooms and large galley with opposite bar. Noteworthy aspect of this boat is that it is one of the most comfortable riding boats in this class we have ever sold. The Performance While handling the 52 open, it quickly became apparent that everything about the way this boat handled was different -- and for the better! By that I mean not pounding into a wave, but rather cutting through it, not slamming down in re-entry after catching air, and no over-wide turns at full speed as often occurs with nowadays pod drives. It seems clear to me that the design of the hull matched to big MAN’s really comes together in the 52 open. Handling the 52 There was also a marked difference in the way the 52 handles. She seemed to have a much quicker response to the helm than I've come to expect. Twin shaft drives had us cranking around in a very tight turn radius, but it did so with a gentle roll into the turn so neither I, nor the mechanics onboard producing our data reports (GrandYachts standard) felt the need to hold on in order to prevent being tossed out of our seats. Likewise, none of the contents of the cupboards down below found their way to the deck. More importantly, the main benefit was in how the 52 handled in the large waves produced by our Predator 60 wave maker. Powering straight into 1.5m wake had me bracing for an impact that never came. We sliced through cleanly and effortlessly and continued on our merry way. Approaching from the backside of the wave had similar results, with no tendency to stuff the bow or push the stern off course. As a matter of fact, I did everything I could to try and get spray on the windshield and failed. The simple fact is, the more I drove this boat…the more I liked the way it handled. Features a wide open cockpit So now that we've determined that we are selling an exceptionally good handling boat, let's take a look at the features from the top down. The cockpit is well laid out for entertaining with a roomy L-shaped settee. There's a solid wood fold-open table that will transform the settee into an extra sun pad. Not that you need more of this as there is a 4 person sun pad on the stern garage and a 3 person sun pad on her bow… There is a stainless cockpit door that will allow you to lock out access and provide safety for younger occupants while underway. The helm is forward and starboard-mounted with a twin seat. To the left is a Raymarine hybrid touch navigation display, and while it faces the captain, its location in front of the observer allows another person to take part in the navigation. The entire port side of the cockpit is all seating that extends from the aft fully forward. The forward section culminates in a front glass protected lounge area. On port directly behind the helm there’s an outside wetbar that houses a sink with water tap, large refrigerator, stainless steel ice-maker and a dual zone induction plate. Side Decks and Bow Features Accessing the side decks is a simple affair thanks to the grab handle at the aft end of the radar arch. Once on deck, a high and solid stainless railing runs along the boat which exceeds ABYC standards. At the working end of the bow, the deck slopes downward just a bit, while the rail stays level. This has the effect of increasing the rail height to very and safe good heights. I have to take my hat off to the designers for insisting on these high safety rails. Too many builders keep them low to make the boat look "cool." Unfortunately, they are not as safe. Fully forward there are hatches that lead you to the windlass, and you are able to reach under the windlass through a hatch to manage any tangles that may occur. A nice touch is the foredeck that houses flush mounted glass that brings natural daylight into the cabin! A double-wide sun pad lies over the cabin, and it is in a fixed position. Cockpit and Swim Platform The ergonomics are spot on perfect as far as I'm concerned, with everything falling right to the hand in a natural position. Numarine has taken non-glare carbon panels to another level to where they house the electronics packages. The look is outstanding. This Numarine benefits of having double MAN-Rexroth electronic morse controls and a bow thruster control integrated inside the full carbon fibre mouldings. The cockpit is really large and features teak decking and a solid wood table that is on an adjustable pole lift that raises it to dining position, and lowers to sun pad level. A settee seats 8 and there's room for two deck chairs in the event more than 8 are on board. In the deck is a hatch leading to the engine compartment. The swim platform integrates Teflon sliders to assist pulling the tender inside by the touch of a button that activates your dinghy winch. The tender garage is big enough to accommodate a 2.5 m RIB with the outboard attached or a jetski if desired. The fully laid teak platform also houses a fold away bathing ladder and just above the first step a stainless steel Opacmare hydraulic gangway is stowed nearly invisible. The master has an ensuite head with very high ceilings at 2.39 m. There's a separate shower stall with a seat, and Numarine added the sinks to the top of the counter rather than recessed into the counters. It just provides more space for storage below and it is the stylish way of doing it these days. Salon The main salon is very large and with the integrated bar also very fancy. Unique detail is that this bar houses a large flat tv with a dolby surround sound system. The L shaped sofa provides seating space for the entire family and was of course new upholstered by us in thick anthracite grey Alcantara. Details as brushed aluminium strips inside the light maple woodwork and the quality that this brand produces makes this salon and the entire yacht around it a place to stay in comfort for more than just a couple of days.
